The Local Journalism Initiative (LJI) is excited to announce that Nick Stonesifer has joined the new collaborative nonprofit newsroom, Spotlight Delaware, as a reporter.
Stonesifer joins Spotlight Delaware after graduating from Pennsylvania State University, where he worked for four years for its student-run, independent newspaper, The Daily Collegian. During his time there, he was the Editor-in-Chief, a beat editor, reporter, photographer and podcast host.
Stonesifer was recently recognized in the Hearst Journalism Writing Competition for his work covering the 2023 Norfolk Southern train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio. Stonesifer has also traveled to Istanbul, Turkey to do international reporting.
“I’m very excited to be a part of a newsroom so dedicated to service in its community and building out coverage across the state,” Stonesifer said. “I’m excited not only to collaborate with other newsrooms, but to really meet the demands of coverage in Delaware.”
Spotlight Delaware focuses on covering public policy and how it affects the daily lives of Delawareans throughout the state, with a particular emphasis on communities that have not always had access to local news and information.
“During his time reporting for The Daily Collegian, Nick gained a lot of experience in reporting on stories important to the local community, and I really appreciate his focus on telling the stories of individual people,” said Spotlight Delaware Editor-in-Chief Jacob Owens. “I’m very excited to see how he’ll bring this perspective to tell the personal stories of our local communities here in Delaware.”
