The Local Journalism Initiative (LJI) is proud to announce Patricia Rivera, founder and CEO of Hook PR & Marketing, as the new chair of its board of directors.

Rivera, a Lewes resident and longtime leader in Delaware’s Latino communities, will lead LJI’s board as the organization strives to increase its service to Spanish speakers. LJI’s Delaware Journalism Collaborative just published the first bilingual Voters Guide. Meanwhile, Spotlight Delaware – LJI’s community-powered, collaborative, nonprofit newsroom – will begin providing bilingual local news and information by the end of this year.

A founding member of the LJI board, Rivera rejoined earlier this year following a two-year hiatus.

“Stepping into this role feels like a natural progression in my journey with LJI,” Rivera said. “The goal is for our bilingual content to reflect and elevate the voices and experiences of Delaware’s Latino communities. I’m eager to guide LJI into this next chapter of growth and innovation.”

Rivera’s extensive background in journalism, entrepreneurship and multicultural marketing will help LJI build a stronger local news ecosystem that effectively reaches and serves Delaware’s diverse communities more effectively, said LJI Founder and CEO Allison Taylor Levine.

“Patricia’s love for Delaware and her expertise in reaching Latino audiences will drive our efforts to engage and empower more Delawareans,” Levine said. “We’re grateful to have her leadership.”

Rivera succeeds Amy Cherry, who led LJI’s board with distinction for the past two years. Under Cherry’s leadership, LJI made significant strides in fulfilling its mission.

LJI operates several programs, including Spotlight Delaware, the collaborative, community-powered, nonprofit newsroom. To learn more about Spotlight Delaware and become a Founding Member, visit spotlightdelaware.org/support.
