The Local Journalism Initiative (LJI) is excited to announce that Samantha Facciolo has been selected as the director of development, supporting the new collaborative nonprofit newsroom, Spotlight Delaware.

In the new role, Facciolo willSamantha Facciolo - headshot work with individual donors, foundations and other partners to build revenue to sustain and grow LJI’s work to strengthen democracy and community by strengthening the local news and information ecosystem in Delaware.

Facciolo, a Long Neck resident, has more than 20 years of experience cultivating partnerships between individuals and organizations. For the past seven years, she has worked at the Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom, an organization dedicated to building bridges between Jewish and Muslim women.

Samantha also has worked as a Montessori-trained educator, an adjunct professor of creative writing, and a writer-in-residence in New York City and Boston public schools. An advocate for community building and volunteerism, she has used her Spanish-language skills to assist immigrants and asylum seekers and her background in teaching to conduct equine-assisted therapy for children and adults with disabilities.

Born and raised in Wilmington, Facciolo has Bachelor of Arts in international relations from American University and a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from New York University.

“I’m passionate about connecting people and causes and leveraging collaboration in support of greater social good,” Facciolo said. “I’m excited to join LJI and Spotlight Delaware and to be part of a team that is using journalism to reduce polarization and misinformation and to strengthen local communities and our connections to one another.”

Spotlight Delaware focuses on covering public policy and how it affects the daily lives of Delawareans throughout the state, with a particular emphasis on communities that have not always had access to local news and information.

“Samantha has a wonderful ability to help people understand and connect to organizations and causes that need their support,” said LJI Founder and CEO Allison Taylor Levine. “Her passion for building community makes her a wonderful addition to the LJI team.”
